Registration of Twenty-One New Bacterial Strains in the Global Gene Bank

In a scientific achievement that adds to the distinguished research record of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Riyan Mazin Faisal, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, in collaboration with M.Sc. student Zaina Salim Mohammed Najeeb, successfully registered twenty-one new bacterial strains belonging to the species Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the global gene bank of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
The strains were registered under the accession numbers PX925921–PX925941 after being locally isolated from clinical samples collected in the city of Mosul. This accomplishment contributes to documenting local microbial diversity and making it accessible to the global scientific community.
The bacterial isolates were also deposited in the strain bank of the Department of Biology, College of Science, where they will be available for future scientific studies and research projects conducted by specialized researchers within the university. This step supports the advancement of scientific research and enhances opportunities for academic collaboration in the fields of microbiology and medical sciences.
This achievement represents a valuable addition to ongoing efforts aimed at documenting microbial strains locally and linking them to international databases, thereby opening broader prospects for genetic studies and future medical applications.
We extend our best wishes to the faculty members and students of our college for continued success, progress, and scientific excellence.
