Registration of Two New Bacterial Isolates in the NCBI Database

A research team from the Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul, has successfully registered a number of bacterial isolates in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) as part of its academic research activities.

The research was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi Mohammed, with the participation of graduating students Tabarak Ammar Ali and Baraa Nazim Mustafa.

The registered bacterial isolates belong to the species Priestia megaterium and Bacillus sonorensis, which were isolated from the root nodules of broad bean plants (Vicia faba L.) grown under different stress conditions in the greenhouse of the College of Science, University of Mosul. The isolates were identified using molecular techniques based on the analysis and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene.

The genetic sequences were officially deposited in the GenBank database of NCBI under the following accession numbers:

  1. Priestia megaterium strain TBA3 16SPZ231463.1
  2. Bacillus sonorensis strain TBA2PZ231461.1

This achievement represents an important contribution to academic scientific research by documenting the molecular data of bacterial isolates and making them accessible to researchers worldwide. Such efforts enhance scientific collaboration and support future studies in microbiology, molecular biology, and agricultural biotechnology.

The work also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, through the promotion of scientific research and student involvement in research activities, and Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by contributing to scientific innovation and the advancement of biotechnology research.

The College extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to its faculty members and students for continued success, achievement, and excellence in their scientific endeavors.
