The Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Science, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency and the Department of Life Sciences, organized a workshop entitled “Psychological Support and Suicide Prevention Strategies.”

The workshop was held on Thursday, 16 April 2026, in Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall at the Department of Biology, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.

The workshop was delivered by:

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Angham Jabbar Alwan
  • Assist. Lecturer Eileen Muwaffaq Khalil
  • Assist. Lecturer Hiba Fares Ahmed

The workshop aimed to enhance students’ awareness of mental health and equip them with practical strategies for coping with psychological stress and preventing high-risk behaviors. It also sought to promote a culture of seeking help and psychological support within the university environment.

Several important topics were addressed during the workshop, including the identification of indicators of mental health disorders, early intervention approaches, psychological first-aid skills, and the role of families and universities in suicide prevention and the creation of a supportive and safe environment.

This activity contributed to the achievement of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being through the promotion of mental health, Goal 4: Quality Education through awareness and knowledge dissemination, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by supporting a safe, cohesive, and inclusive university environment.

The College extends its best wishes to its students for continued success, progress, and prosperity.
