Registration of Two New Fungal Strains in the Global NCBI Gene Bank

As part of the continuing record of scientific achievements at the College of Science, Professor Dr. Maha Akram Mohammed Ali Al-Rajbo, in collaboration with project student Manar Habash Bilal, successfully registered two new fungal strains in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Gene Bank.

The registered fungal strains belong to the following species:

  • Trichoderma longibrachiatum
  • Curvularia spicifera

The genetic sequences were deposited under the accession numbers PZ281665 and PZ281963 after the strains had been locally isolated from a toenail affected by a chronic fungal infection in the city of Mosul and identified using modern molecular techniques.

This achievement represents a significant scientific contribution to the documentation of local fungal isolates within international databases, supporting the efforts of researchers and further strengthening the College’s standing in the field of high-quality scientific research.

We extend our best wishes to our dear students for continued progress, success, and prosperity.
