Faculty Member from the College of Science Participates in a Master’s Thesis Defense at Tikrit University

As part of academic cooperation and the exchange of expertise among Iraqi universities, Assist. Prof. Dr. Falah Abd Mohammed Al-Maamari from the College of Science, University of Mosul, participated in the defense of the Master’s thesis presented by Obaida Amer Abbas at the College of Science, Tikrit University, on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

The thesis, entitled:

“Stratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Jeribe Formation Successions within the Northwestern Plunge of Bekhair Anticline, Northern Iraq,”

demonstrated that the Jeribe Limestone Formation was deposited in a shallow marine back-reef environment.

The study revealed that the formation consists of alternating successions of limestone, marly limestone, dolomitic limestone, in addition to marl beds.

The research concluded that the depositional environment of the formation was directly influenced by the active tectonic setting during the time of deposition. It also showed that the distribution of the formation was variable, with the basin margin located at the boundary between the High Folded Zone and the Low Folded Zone.

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Fares Najris Hassan (Tikrit University) and included:

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Ammar Jummad Mohammed – Tikrit University
  • Prof. Dr. Falah Abd Mohammed Al-Maamari – University of Mosul

The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Mahdi Saleh (Tikrit University).

The committee approved the thesis with a grade of Very Good in recognition of the candidate’s distinguished research efforts.

At the conclusion of the defense, Prof. Dr. Abdul Khaliq Alwan Muhaimeed, Dean of the College of Science at Tikrit University, presented letters of appreciation to the committee members in recognition of their valuable scientific contributions.

We wish all our faculty members continued success and academic excellence.
