The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science holds three scientific seminars for graduate students

On Monday, June 29, 2026, the Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul held three scientific seminars for graduate students in the Hall of Professor Dr. Mahmoud Haj Qasem, in the presence of a number of department teachers and graduate students, as part of the requirements for completing their scientific research.
The seminars were initiated by a presentation made by Abdullah Fathi Aqeel, PhD student in the branch of microbiology, entitled:
“Evaluation of Early Diagnosis Methods for Bacterial Neonatal Sepsis Infection in Mosul City and the Possibility of Improving”،
The research dealt with evaluating the methods of early diagnosis of bacterial sepsis in newborns in Mosul, and studying the possibility of developing them in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of diagnosis, speeding up therapeutic intervention, and reducing pathological complications.
This was followed by the second seminar presented by the doctoral student in the Botany branch Shifa Tayar Jafar, entitled:
“Evaluating the effectiveness of some active compounds extracted from some local basidiomycetes and studying some of their vital applications”،
The research dealt with the study of the biological properties of a number of compounds extracted from local basidiomycetes, assessing their efficiency and the possibility of employing them in multiple scientific, medical and environmental applications.
As for the third seminar, it was presented by the master’s student in the branch of Botany, Lazim Hammadi Bahr al-Janabi, entitled:
“Studying the environmental impact of some wastewater dumped into the Tigris River within the city of Mosul and the use of certain types of algae to treat this water”،
He highlighted the assessment of the environmental impacts of wastewater in the Tigris River inside the city of Mosul, as well as studying the possibility of employing selected species of algae in the bioremediation of this water and reducing its environmental impact.
These seminars were conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohsen Ayoub Issa, Assistant Prof. Dr. OS Ibrahim Suleiman for the first seminar, Prof. Dr. Faten Nouri Abdul Hussein for the second seminar, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Abdel Moneim Mohamed Kenah for the third seminar.
The seminars witnessed extensive scientific discussions between researchers, members of scientific committees and attendees, which contributed to enriching research topics and providing scientific observations that would improve the quality of studies and enhance their research value, in line with the directions of the Faculty of Science in supporting scientific research and developing graduate outputs.
We wish our dear students continued success and success.
