A lecturer from the Faculty of science participates in the discussion of a doctoral thesis at the University of Kirkuk

Within the framework of enhancing academic cooperation between Iraqi universities, assistant professor Dr. Falih Hassan Abbas, a lecturer at the Department of Earth and petroleum sciences at the Faculty of science – Mosul University, participated in the membership of the doctoral dissertation discussion Committee at the Faculty of science at the University of Kirkuk, on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The tagged thesis was discussed:” sedimentary, mineralogical and geochemical indicators and their importance in determining the Paleoenvironment of the distinctive boundaries of the Upper Cretaceous sequences in the Foreland Basin, Kurdistan region, northern Iraq”, submitted by PhD student Zaman Rustam Omar Ali. The thesis was aimed at studying the sedimentary, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the Upper Cretaceous sequences, reconstructing ancient depositional environments, assessing the sources of sediments, the tectonic framework and the potential of hydrocarbon generation. The results showed a variation in depositional environments and a clear influence of weathering and tectonic activity, with the Dukan section having a higher hydrocarbon potential compared to the qiwan section. The participation of the Faculty of science teachers in the scientific committees outside the university is a confirmation of the academic status enjoyed by the faculty’s teachers, and their contribution to supporting scientific research and enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions. We wish the professors of our college continued success and giving. Government information and Communication Division Sunday, July 26, 2026
