On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul witnessed the discussion of the doctoral thesis tagged ” study of the electrical and optical properties of polymers and copolymers of diazole and benzothiazole and their derivatives ” by doctoral student Rasha Ali Al-Jarrah in the specialty of industrial chemistry, part of which was attended by the dean of the Faculty of science, professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim al-muhtarraq, the Scientific Assistant and the head of the Department. The aim of the study was to prepare polymers and copolymers derived from benzothiazole, oxadiazole, and Triazole, analyze their electrical and optical properties, study the effect of chemical composition on their physical behavior, explore their application potential in electronic devices, photovoltaic and bioelectronic technologies, to develop smart materials with high performance in medical and industrial fields. The results showed that the prepared hybrid polymers accept tarnishing of various types such as (I_2) and(NaI) to obtain innovative semiconductor materials of type (p\text{-type}) and(n\text{-type}) respectively and with the same efficiency, with the possibility of using concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl) as a stain for the manufacture of polymers with ionic conductivity. The thesis proved that the mechanics of electrical conduction in the prepared polymers differs from the conductive crystalline materials or conventional semiconductors based on the energy gap; the transitions of charge carriers formed within the polymer chain play the main role in giving the polymer its unique electrical and optical properties. The distinguished discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman basil Fadel Amin as chairman, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Ragheed Youssef Ghazal Youssef, assistant professor Dr. Lubna Abdul Aziz Saleh Salim, assistant professor Dr. Luqman Idris Mahmoud halbous, assistant professor Dr. Thaer Abdel Helou Mahmoud and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Asaad Faisal Khattab Omran. The dean of the Faculty, Professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to assistant professor Dr. Luqman Idris Mohammed halbous from the University of Kirkuk for taking the trouble to travel and participating in the student discussion.
