Master thesis discusses physiological and molecular indicators in infertile men

The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, discussed the tagged master‘s thesis: “Evaluation of Some Physiological and Molecular Parameters in Infertile Men” For graduate student Khalid Mohammed Ibrahim in the specialty (Zoology). The study aimed at evaluating a number of physiological and molecular indicators in men with infertility, contributing to understanding the complex mechanisms of male infertility, detecting hormonal and genetic disorders associated with it, as well as providing original basic data that can be used in future studies and research in Iraq. The main results and conclusions of the study : Physiological and hormonal indicators: the results showed a significant decrease in sperm concentration and motility in infertile men, offset by a marked increase in the percentage of non-motile sperm. The study also detected an increase in the levels of the hormones LH and FSH and a decrease in testosterone, with a strong and direct correlation between LH and Statistical diagnostic efficiency: the results of the statistical analysis curve (ROC) showed that the LH hormone was the best and the highest discriminating and accurate in separating infertile and healthy people, followed by the FSH hormone and then testosterone. Molecular and genetic analysis: the molecular side revealed the presence of deletions in the chromosome (23.3%) of the examined samples, and the location (SY164) was the most common in the deletion, as these genetic deletions were associated with deterioration of semen quality and disruption of hormonal levels. In its conclusion, the study emphasizes the crucial importance of the need to combine clinical, hormonal, and molecular micro-examinations to reach a comprehensive assessment and accurate diagnosis of male infertility cases.
