PhD thesis discussing the use of alpha-amino azole/azine compounds in the preparation of various heterocyclic compounds

The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul discussed, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, the tagged doctoral thesis: “α-Amino azole/azine as Key Reaction Partner to Achieve Diverse Heterocyclic through Simple and Efficient Synthetic Routes” Which was presented by researcher Shaima Khalaf Mohammed Sultan, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Youssef Abdullah Shihab for discussions, in the presence of part of her, the dean of the Faculty of science, professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim. The aim of the study was to prepare effective building blocks of Alpha-aminoazol/azine compounds using simple and effective strategies, and to employ them in the preparation of various heterocyclic systems through multicomponent reactions conducted in one vessel. The practical methodology included the use of a number of green chemistry techniques and catalysts, including microwave heating and grinding, as well as the use of lemon juice as a natural acid catalyst in some reactions. The prepared compounds were also diagnosed using a number of physical and spectroscopic techniques, including the melting point (M.P.), Thin-layer chromatography (TLC), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of Proton (1H-NMR) and carbon (13C-NMR), mass spectrometry (GC-MS) of some samples. The study showed a number of important scientific results, as most of the prepared compounds showed promising and acceptable results in vital activity, and molecular docking studies of these compounds were conducted towards a number of cancer-related biological targets, namely BCL2, CDK2 and EGFR, which play important roles in cell growth, division and programmed death. The results also proved the effectiveness of lemon juice as a natural acid catalyst, based on the amount of products obtained from the reactions. Multicomponent reactions in one vessel have shown the ability to reduce reaction times, as well as being economical and environmentally friendly, especially when combined with simple and sustainable technologies such as microwave heating and grinding, while obtaining high purity products and improved yield. The discussion Committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Salem Jassim Mohammed Saleh, and the membership of assistant professor Dr. Alia Adel Dawood, assistant professor Dr. Atallah Mohammed shit Mahmoud, assistant professor Dr. Harith Mohammed Suleiman Abdul, assistant professor Dr. Banan Burhan said Ahmed, and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Shaima Khazal Younis Omar. On the sidelines of the discussion, the dean of the Faculty of science, professor Dr. Hiam Adel Ibrahim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to assistant professor Dr. Alia Adel Daoud, in appreciation of her scientific efforts and active participation in the dissertation discussion Committee, and in appreciation of her giving and contributions in supporting the scientific and academic process.
