A new scientific achievement in the field of smart materials and energy harvesting

Dr. Ibtisam Yahya Abdullah, Teaching in the Department of new and renewable energies and in charge of the scientific affairs unit at the College of science, has achieved a new scientific achievement by publishing her branded research: “Influence of ZnO addition on the piezoelectric performance of PVDF” In the journal Applied Physics A of the international publishing house Springer Nature, indexed in Scopus and Clarivate, classified in the second quarter (Q2). The research deals with the study of the effect of adding zinc oxide (ZnO) to the PVDF polymer, and its role in improving its piezoelectric properties, contributing to the development of smart and flexible materials that have promising potential in a number of modern technological applications. The importance of research highlights the possibility of using these materials in the future in energy harvesting from vibrations and movement, smart sensors, flexible electronics, and low-energy-consumption technologies, thus enhancing the use of advanced materials in sustainable energy applications. The research is related to a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular: Goal 7: clean and affordable energy, by supporting the development of energy harvesting technologies. Goal 9: Industry and innovation, by promoting research and innovation in the field of Advanced Materials and smart technologies. Goal 12: responsible consumption and production, through the development of functionally efficient materials and the improvement of the use of their components. Goal 13: climate action, by contributing to the development of more efficient and sustainable energy technologies. This research represents a scientific addition in the field of smart and piezoelectric materials, and reflects the Faculty of science’s interest in supporting scientific research and innovation, especially in the fields of renewable energies and sustainable technologies.
