The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul discussed the master thesis tagged “the effect of biostimulation in improving physiological processes and activating resistance mechanisms in the fragrant plant (Pelargonium graveolens) infected with wilting disease caused by the fungus Fusarium spp.“, Submitted by student Hoda Ali Mahmoud, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of mycorrhiza fungi in reducing the spread of Fusarium spp. To reduce the incidence and severity of wilting disease in a fragrant plant, as well as to study the possibility of combining mycorrhiza with reduced concentrations of fungicides to enhance the efficiency of control, and to reveal its role in stimulating the mechanisms of internal plant resistance through its influence on a number of physiological, biochemical and chemical indicators and components. The results showed that the use of bio-fertilizers represented by mycorrhiza contributed to improving the growth indicators, physiological and biochemical processes of the plant, including plant height, leaf area, chlorophyll and protein content, in addition to increasing the content of a number of chemical and defensive compounds, including geraniol and linalool, as well as increasing the yield of pilot oil. The results also showed that the joint treatment between mycorrhiza and fungicide achieved an integrative effect in protecting the fragrant plant from infection, which indicates the possibility of reducing the concentrations of fungicides used and reducing their environmental impacts, thus supporting the trends of Integrated Control and sustainable agriculture. The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Jenan Abdul Khaleq Saeed as chairman, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdul Hadi Muhammad Ali and assistant professor Dr. Nihal Younis Muhammad, while the thesis was supervised by the assistant professor Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali Muhammad and participated in the membership of the committee. This study comes within the framework of the research efforts of the Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science to develop biological and sustainable control methods, and promote the use of biological alternatives in reducing plant diseases and improving growth and productivity.
