As part of the continuing education activities, the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul held, on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2026, a scientific workshop entitled “rose chemistry: analysis of effective compounds and their applications in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries”, in the presence of a group of professors of the department and those interested in the subject from inside and outside the University. The workshop dealt with the chemical composition of roses and its aromatic compounds and methods of extraction, with a review of the most effective compounds, including terpene alcohols, ketones, aldehydes and terpene oxides, as well as carotenoids and flavonols and their role in the colors and aromas of roses. She also touched upon the most important practical applications of rose in the perfume industry, cosmetics and skin care, aromatherapy, food industries, along with the importance of its natural compounds in a number of vital and industrial applications. The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Soha Ali Ahmed, teacher Dr. Saba Mumtaz Saleh, assistant teacher Noha Amer Mustafa, and assistant teacher Bara Abdul Khaliq Mohammed.
