The Faculty of Science, in cooperation with the Health Center at the University of Mosul, organized on Tuesday morning, October 13, 2026, an awareness workshop entitled “prevention of thalassemia”, in the Hall of Professor Dr. Mahmoud Haj Qasim at the Department of life sciences, with the participation of a number of faculty teachers, associates and students. The workshop was presented by Dr. Iman Azhar Younis, a specialist doctor, Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Al-Allaf, and senior head nurse Mohammed Ahmed Yassin, reviewing the nature of thalassemia, its causes and ways to prevent it, emphasizing the importance of medical examinations and genetic counseling, especially pre-marital examinations, for their role in reducing the transmission of the disease and reducing the likelihood of infection of future generations. The workshop stressed the importance of promoting health awareness of genetic diseases and encouraging individuals to take the necessary tests, which contributes to establishing a culture of prevention and reducing the spread of the disease. This workshop is part of the scientific and awareness-raising activities of the College of science, aimed at enhancing its community role and expanding cooperation with health institutions to spread knowledge and consolidate health awareness.
