Master’s Thesis Defense – Department of Chemistry, College of Science, University of Mosul

On Monday, September 8, 2025, the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, University of Mosul, held the defense of the master’s thesis entitled:

“Spectrophotometric Estimation of Captopril in Pharmaceutical Tablets”

presented by Sara Ahmed Hazaa Ismail from the Department of Chemistry.

The study focused on the estimation of Captopril in pharmaceutical formulations, especially tablets, and on developing modern spectrophotometric methods for its accurate and effective determination, contributing to drug quality assurance and patient safety.

The defense was attended by Prof. Dr. Salem Jassim, Head of the Department of Chemistry, several faculty members, and graduate students. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nabil Sabih Othman Khidr, with members Prof. Dr. Hana Shaker Mahmoud Ahmed and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salem Sheet Mustafa, supervised and co-supervised by Asst. Prof. Saad Hasani Sultan Jirjis Alawi.

On behalf of Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, Dean of the College, the Head of Department presented a letter of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Mohammed Salem Sheet Mustafa from the College of Education for Girls, University of Mosul, recognizing his distinguished contribution to the student’s defense.

This research aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by developing innovative scientific methods for drug estimation.
