A continuing education course on the path of sulfur dioxide emissions and its impact on air quality and health

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and the follow-up of the dean of the Faculty of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel al-Taie, and under the supervision of the head of the Department of chemistry, assistant professor Dr. Firas Ahmed dhanon, the Department of Chemistry held a continuing education course tagged ” the path of sulfur dioxide emissions on air quality and health… towards a green environment ” :
Assistant Prof. Dr. Iman Ismail, Assistant Prof. Dr. Alaa Mohamed is good tonight, Assistant Prof. Neam Muhammad is good tonight, Assistant Prof. Dr. Basma Ahmed, Dr. Shaima Sultan Al Mutlaq.
Course themes :
First day: introduction to air pollution, its definition and sources of industrial, transport, household and agricultural, with an indication of the impact of atmospheric factors in the concentration of pollutants.
Day two: the main pollutants and their effects, especially carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, suspended particles, volatile organic compounds, sulfur dioxide (SO2) and its role in acid rain.
Day three: health and environmental impacts of air pollution, including respiratory and cardiac diseases and its effects on ecosystems and infrastructure.
Day four: green ways to control SO2 emissions before, during and after combustion, such as fuel switching and purification, fluidized bed combustion, flue gas purification technologies, in addition to biological sulfur extraction.
Fifth day: conducting a scientific test for participants on the course themes.
The session concluded with a set of recommendations that stressed the importance of adopting integrated green solutions to reduce emissions and achieve the highest environmental efficiency, in line with the principles of sustainability and Public Health Protection.
In conclusion, the College of science extends its sincere wishes to the best teachers of our college for the time of scientific and academic progress and giving, asking the Almighty for more successes in serving science and society.
