Five new bacterial strains have been registered in the NCBI global gene bank.

Among the achievements of the College of Science/Department of Biology Sciences, a distinguished research team led by Dr. Mohammed Abdulrazzaq Ibrahim Al-Qattan, and including fourth-year graduation project students Sama Atheer, Fatima Salem, and Namaa Akab, achieved a significant scientific milestone by registering five new bacterial strains in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
The registered bacterial strains belong to the following species:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa,
Klebsiella pneumoniae,
Escherichia coli,
Staphylococcus aureus,
Staphylococcus haemolyticus,
after being isolated from individuals with skin pigmentation disorders.
The strains were identified bacteriologically and molecularly through the documentation of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequences, and were then officially deposited in the GenBank International (NCBI) with access numbers and under the following names:
- Staphylococcus haemolyticus strain MONaFaS (PX795317)
- Staphylococcus aureus strain MOFaNaSa (PX795327)
- Klebsiella pneumoniae strain MOSaFaNa (PX795328)
- Escherichia coli strain MOSaNaFa (PX795329)
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain MONaSaFa (PX795330)
In this context, the Dean of the College of Science and the Head of the Department of Biology Sciences commended the outstanding scientific efforts exerted by the research team and the students involved in the project, expressing their pride in this qualitative achievement, which reflects the high level of scientific and research competence of the department’s members and contributes to enhancing The college’s academic standing, both locally and internationally, is affirmed, along with its continued support for all rigorous scientific work that serves the community and advances the field of scientific research.
In conclusion, the college community extends its sincere wishes to the research team and our dear students for continued brilliance, success, and further scientific achievements.
