From the Memory of the Scientific Field… Photographs Documenting the Summer Field Training of Geology Sciences Students in Ankara

With the fragrance of cherished memories, these photographs take us back to a remarkable period whose details remain vivid in our minds—a time when passion for knowledge inspired students to explore broader horizons of learning and experience. We are pleased to share a collection of photographs documenting the summer field training of Geology Sciences students in 2011 in the Republic of Türkiye, a scientific journey that remains a distinguished chapter in the history of the Department.
As part of the academic cooperation between the University of Mosul and Ankara University, fourth-year students from the Department of Earth Sciences were sent to the Turkish capital, Ankara, under the supervision of several faculty members from the Department. At the time, the University of Mosul covered all travel expenses in support of academic advancement and to encourage students to engage in international field-based learning experiences.
The delegation was welcomed and accompanied by Professor Dr. Yusuf Kadioglu, Director of the Geological Research Center at Ankara University, along with the Iraqi Ambassador to Türkiye, in a scene that reflected the strength of academic relations and the spirit of scientific cooperation between the two institutions.
Today, years later, these photographs remain far more than simple snapshots. They are a treasured archive preserving the faces of colleagues, the details of field excursions, conversations along the journey, and the excitement of first discoveries. Together, they tell the story of a memorable scientific experience that continues to inspire and will never be forgotten.
