College of Science Discusses Master’s Thesis on the Preparation of Imidazolone-Derived Polymers and Their Electrical Properties

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, University of Mosul, discussed on Thursday, April 30, 2026, a Master’s thesis entitled:
“Preparation of Polymers Derived from Imidazolone Compounds and Study of Their Electrical Properties”
submitted by the student Naseer Hussein Mustafa Al-Jubouri.
The study aimed to synthesize heterocyclic compounds derived from imidazolone using readily available starting materials and subsequently employ them as monomers in the preparation of new polymers with advanced electrical properties. The work included the synthesis of oxazolones and their conversion into imidazolone derivatives, in addition to diazotization and coupling reactions, ultimately leading to the polymerization of the resulting compounds.
The results demonstrated the successful preparation of new polymers belonging to the phenoplast and polyamide classes. These polymers exhibited good thermal stability and promising electrical conductivity. The study revealed that electrical conductivity increased with greater symmetry of the polymer chain and decreased with increased chain flexibility, in agreement with theoretical expectations.
The examination committee consisted of:
- Professor Dr. Salim Jassim Mohammed Saleh – Chairperson
- Assistant Professor Dr. Harith Mohammed Salman Abd – Member
- Lecturer Dr. Amna Farouq Sanaullah Abdullah – Member
- Professor Dr. Shaimaa Khazal Younis Omar – Member and Supervisor
- Professor Dr. Asaad Faisal Khattab Omran – Member and Supervisor
At the conclusion of the discussion, we wish our students continued success and excellence in their academic journey and further contributions to scientific research.
