Training Workshop at the College of Science to Enhance Practical Skills of Chemistry Students

The Department of Chemistry, College of Science – University of Mosul, organized a specialized training workshop for first-year students on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, with the participation of Biochemistry faculty members and staff from the research hospital laboratories.

The workshop aimed to introduce students to the importance of chemistry in the medical field and clinical diagnostics, as well as to train them in blood sampling techniques and basic clinical testing procedures in accordance with approved scientific standards. It also emphasized occupational safety principles and proper handling of biological samples.

The program included key topics such as the role of chemical analyses in medical diagnosis, identification of blood collection tools and their correct usage, common procedural errors and how to avoid them, as well as basic principles of laboratory equipment operation and preliminary interpretation of test results.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the Head of the Department, and received positive engagement from students, who expressed strong interest in the practical components, highlighting the importance of repeating such activities to further develop their hands-on skills.

This activity comes as part of preparing qualified student cohorts equipped with the knowledge and practical competencies required for careers in medical and laboratory fields, contributing to improved healthcare services and supporting sustainable development goals.
