Head of the Department of Biology Participates in a PhD Dissertation Defense at the University of Mosul

Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi Mohammed, Head of the Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Mosul, participated as a member of the examination committee for a PhD dissertation defense held at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Mosul.
The defense took place on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, for the dissertation submitted by the student Amina Amin Ahmed, entitled:
“Production of Seed Tubers from Potato Minitubers (Solanum tuberosum L., cv. Arizona) Under Ex Vitro Conditions.”
The dissertation aimed to investigate shoot proliferation in the potato cultivar Arizona of the Elite and A classes through cultivation on nutrient media containing different concentrations of BA (Benzyladenine) and Zeatin, as well as to evaluate the role of Glutamine and Methionine in enhancing shoot multiplication. The study also examined shoot rooting using various concentrations of IBA (Indole-3-Butyric Acid) for both classes and assessed the effect of Arginine on the rooting process. In addition, a comparison was conducted between the minitubers produced from the Elite and A classes.
The dissertation further addressed the production of seed tubers through the cultivation of minitubers derived from plantlets grown under protected-house conditions, contributing to improved efficiency in potato seed production.
The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Ammar Omar Al-Atraqchi and included Prof. Dr. Alaa Hashim Younis, Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Sumood Hussein Ali, and Asst.
