Workshop on “Methods of Handling Fires in Scientific Laboratories”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of New and Renewable Energies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmad Muneer Suhail, as the continuing education activities, the Department of New and Renewable Energies organized a scientific workshop on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026, entitled:

“Methods of Handling Fires in Scientific Laboratories”

The workshop was held in Ibn Sina Hall at the department, with the participation of a group of faculty members and researchers.

The workshop addressed the topic of dealing with fires in chemical laboratories, explaining the causes of fire incidents and methods of prevention through adherence to safety procedures and proper storage of chemicals. It also clarified the correct response in the event of a fire, including the use of appropriate fire extinguishers, types of extinguishers, and their proper usage. In addition, common mistakes were discussed, along with emergency procedures such as rapid evacuation and ensuring the safety of laboratory personnel.

The lectures were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Falknaz Rasheed Qadir, Assistant Lecturer Inas Abdulqadir Hassan, and Assistant Lecturer Marwa Talal, who provided a scientific explanation supported by modern examples, with notable interaction from attendees.

This workshop comes within the series of scientific activities regularly organized by the Department of New and Renewable Energies in support of scientific research and to enhance a culture of sustainability and safety among students and researchers.
