Workshop on Oil Pollution: Its Devastating Impacts on the Environment and Humans

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of New and Renewable Energies, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Muneer Suhail, the Department of New and Renewable Energies organized a scientific workshop on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at Ibn Sina Hall within the department, with the participation of a group of faculty members and researchers.

The workshop, titled “Oil Pollution: Devastating Impacts on the Environment and Humans,” addressed several key themes, including:

  • Definition and types of oil pollution
  • Causes of oil contamination incidents
  • Environmental, health, and economic impacts of oil pollution
  • Treatment and mitigation methods for oil spill control

The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the causes of oil pollution and the mechanisms for reducing and managing it effectively.

It also highlighted the environmental, health, and economic consequences of oil pollution at both local and global levels, while emphasizing modern approaches and methods used in containment and remediation.

The lectures were delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Lubna Abdulaziz and Dr. Hamed Abdullah Saleh, who presented detailed scientific explanations supported by recent examples, with notable interaction from attendees.

This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities regularly organized by the Department of New and Renewable Energies to support scientific advancement and environmental awareness.
