Workshop on “Chromatography Techniques and Their Importance in the Separation and Purification of Organic Compounds”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of New and Renewable Energies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Munir Suhail, the Department of New and Renewable Energies organized a scientific workshop entitled “Chromatography Techniques and Their Importance in the Separation and Purification of Organic Compounds” on the morning of Monday, 16 February 2026, as part of its Continuing Education activities.
The workshop included a theoretical presentation on the principle of chromatography, which is based on the differential distribution of compounds between the stationary phase and the mobile phase. It also reviewed the most important chromatographic techniques commonly used in chemical laboratories. In addition, the workshop highlighted separation mechanisms, factors affecting separation efficiency, and practical aspects related to solvent selection, separation procedures, and analytical methods.
The workshop focused on the significance of chromatography in the separation and purification of organic compounds, emphasizing its role in separating mixture components, purifying reaction products, and obtaining highly pure compounds with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. The importance of this technique lies in its ability to provide rapid and reliable results, making it an essential tool in educational and research laboratories, as well as in various scientific applications.
The workshop was delivered by:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Lumia Adnan Sarsam
- Lecturer Dr. Zainab Abdul Aziz Jameel
- Assistant Lecturer Enas Abdulqader Hassan
The event was attended by a distinguished group of university academics and individuals interested in the field.
This workshop aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- Goal 4: Quality Education, through enhancing practical skills and specialized knowledge.
- Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by supporting modern laboratory techniques and strengthening research capabilities in applied scientific fields.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers expressed their best wishes for the continued success of all participants and emphasized the importance of sustaining scientific contributions that serve the community and advance the university’s research mission.
