College of Science Participates in an Awareness Workshop on Renewable Energy and Sustainability

Under the patronage of the Presidency of the University of Mosul, the University’s Permanent Committee for Renewable Energy and Sustainability organized a specialized awareness workshop on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with the participation of assistant deans, heads of scientific and planning divisions, as well as a number of academic and administrative staff from the Colleges of Science and Engineering.

The workshop aimed to promote the culture of renewable energy utilization and strengthen the concepts of environmental sustainability by highlighting the importance of transitioning to clean energy sources and their role in reducing environmental pollution and carbon emissions, thereby contributing to sustainable development and building a safer and more sustainable future for coming generations.

The workshop featured several scientific sessions addressing the current status of renewable energy in Iraq, prospects for investment in solar energy, the importance of energy conservation and efficiency improvement, as well as the pivotal role of universities and academic institutions in supporting sustainability goals and raising environmental awareness within society.

The workshop was delivered by members of the University of Mosul Permanent Committee for Renewable Energy and Sustainability, chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Munir Suhail, Head of the Department of Renewable Energy at the College of Science. The committee also included Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Tariq Yaseen, Head of the Department of Communications Engineering and Intelligent Digital Systems at the College of Engineering; Mr. Raad Ahmed Ayoub from the Department of Studies and Planning at the University Presidency; Mr. Tawfiq Miqdad Tawfiq from the Department of Student Activities; and Mr. Mohammed Rassim Mohammed from the Department of Scientific Affairs at the University Presidency.

The speakers presented the latest technologies and applications in renewable energy, alongside sustainable practices that enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. The workshop also witnessed active engagement from participants, who enriched the sessions through constructive scientific discussions and interventions.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the committee emphasized the importance of continuing scientific and awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging initiatives that support renewable energy, in line with the University of Mosul’s vision of building a sustainable university environment and strengthening its role in serving the community.
