A new scientific achievement culminated in the granting of a patent to researchers from the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul

In a scientific achievement added to the Register of innovations and research achievements, a research team from the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul was granted a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and quality control / Iraqi Ministry of planning, for their branded innovation: “Preparation of a new polymer from triazole derivatives specialized for the removal of mercury from aqueous solutionsThe patent has been granted to both: Professor Dr. Asaad Faisal KhattabFaculty of Science / University of Mosul. Professor Dr. Hana Shukr MahmoudFaculty of Science / University of Mosul. The decision to grant the patent was issued on July 16, 2026, after completing all the technical and legal procedures for its registration. This innovation is an important scientific step in the field of environmental pollution treatment, as it provides a new polymer material with high efficiency in removing mercury ions from aqueous solutions, contributing to the development of water treatment technologies and reducing the risks of pollutants with heavy elements, as well as supporting modern trends in finding sustainable scientific solutions to environmental problems. This achievement embodies the outstanding scientific level of the Faculty of Science researchers, and confirms the leading role played by the faculty in supporting scientific research and innovation, and providing research solutions that contribute to serving the community and keeping pace with the requirements of sustainable development.
