Professor Dr. Asaad Faisal Khattab, a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul, received a patent issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and quality control in Iraq, for his innovation labeled ” manufacturing nanofibers from prepared polyethylene and using them as an additive in the production of cement with advanced rheological specifications ” . The patent number 8536 was granted on August 9, 2026, with the participation of the researcher Mohammed Fakher Hassan, a master’s student, and Mr. Hisham Yahya Hammadi from the General Directorate of Nineveh education. The idea of innovation is based on converting recycled polyethylene material into nanofibers in an innovative way, and pumping it directly into cement, which contributes to improving its rheological properties and enhancing its properties, in a research step that opens up prospects for the development of cement materials with advanced performance and future engineering applications. The work witnessed a research and technical cooperation between the researchers, as Mr. Hisham Yahya Hammadi, through his industrial workshop, contributed to the design of a special device for pumping nanofibers and adding them to cement, while the researcher Mohammed Fakher Hassan participated in the completion of the research work. The innovation holds promising application prospects in the field of building materials development, and may open the way in the future to technologies that contribute to reducing reliance on rebar in some construction applications, after completing the necessary studies and experiments to assess its efficiency and identify areas of use. This achievement reflects the research and innovative role of the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul teachers and students, and the scientific solutions they provide that invest recycled materials and employ them in modern industrial and engineering applications.
