Department of Biology

The Bachelor of Education in Life Sciences at the College of Education for Women, University of Mosul, is a four-
year undergraduate academic and educational program comprising 240 ECTS credits and delivered in accordance

with the Bologna Process. The program is designed to prepare qualified graduates to teach biological sciences at
post-primary, intermediate, and preparatory stages and to undertake applied biological research.
The program integrates in-depth knowledge across the branches of Life Sciences with educational practice,
modern teaching strategies, educational technology, artificial intelligence applications, green education, and
sustainable development. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory and field
experiences, research activities, teaching practicum, and project-based learning in order to support graduates’
professional readiness and adaptability to educational, research, and labor-market environments.
Program type: Academic and educational. Mode of study: Theoretical and practical. Duration: Four years. Total
workload: 240 ECTS. Semesters: Eight. Workload: 30 ECTS per semester. One ECTS corresponds to 25 hours of
student workload.

Upon successful completion of the approved program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of
Education in Life Sciences degree by the University of Mosul.

The qualification level shall be stated only after official confirmation by the competent University of Mosul / Ministry
authority in accordance with the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework. No numerical level is inserted here
without official evidence.

Admission input specified by the program: graduates of the Ministry of Education’s Sixth Preparatory / Scientific
Branch. Detailed annual admission criteria, quotas, minimum scores, and procedures shall follow the official
Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and University of Mosul regulations in force

Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits specified in the eight-semester curriculum.
• Successful completion of all compulsory, specialized, supporting/related, and elective courses specified in the
approved study plan.
• Successful completion of practical educational components, teaching practicum, research projects, and other
practical training specified in the curriculum.
• Fulfillment of all academic and administrative requirements applicable to the award of the Bachelor’s degree.
Detailed progression, reassessment, academic standing, grading, resit, and appeal regulations shall be attached
from the officially approved University / Ministry regulations rather than being inferred

Recognition of prior learning, academic credit transfer, course equivalency, and related procedures shall be
governed exclusively by the approved regulations of the University of Mosul and the Ministry of Higher Education
and Scientific Research. No transfer or equivalency shall be recognized except through the authorized institutional
procedures.

The program uses three interconnected layers of evidence: (1) an outcome-mapping matrix covering knowledge,
analytical and technical skills, problem solving, teamwork, professional responsibility, self-learning, innovation,
entrepreneurship, and AI/digital competence; (2) a PLO–CLO matrix linking PLO1–PLO12 to courses; and (3) an
I/D/M matrix indicating where outcomes are Introduced, Developed, and Mastered.
The matrices are reproduced in the appendices of this and are intended to be used as institutional evidence for
curriculum alignment and continuous improvement.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Education in Life Sciences are prepared as professionally qualified specialists with
dual educational and scientific competence. Their primary role is to design and teach biology curricula at secondary
and post-primary levels using active teaching strategies, educational technology, artificial-intelligence applications,
green-education principles, and sustainable-development concepts.
Graduates also possess readiness to work as research assistants or specialized laboratory technicians in ministries
and research centers, operate laboratories safely, apply biosafety and biosecurity standards, identify and classify
biological organisms, and participate in applied and action research addressing environmental and scientific
problems.

Graduates may pursue approved postgraduate programs in Life Sciences, biological sciences, education, and
related disciplines, subject to the officially approved postgraduate programs and admission regulations in force. The
specific Master’s and doctoral pathways should be listed only after confirmation by the competent postgraduatestudy authorities.

The Measurement and Evaluation course also develops competence in designing assessment instruments, validity

arrangements, appeals, and academic-integrity regulations shall be reproduced from the approved institutional
regulations.
