Master thesis defense on “Design and simulation of solar storage tank integrated with absorption refrigeration system”
Department of Mechanical Engineering /College of Engineering/at University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on “Design and simulation of solar storage tank integrated with absorption refrigeration system” on Wednesday, 8/11/2023.
The discussion was attended by Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, and a number of college lecturers and postgraduate students.
The thesis submitted by the student, Sufyan Jamal Khalil Zidane, aimed to overcome the current problems of the absorption refrigeration system by designing a storage tank to provide the generator of the absorption refrigeration system with the required thermal energy in periods of low energy provided by the solar collectors as a result of decreased solar radiation, and to stabilize the operation of the absorption refrigeration system that runs on solar energy and to ensure its operation for longer periods.
The thesis discussed the creation of a computer program to design and simulate the various parts of the absorption refrigeration system that uses (LiBr/H2O) solution, and the flat-plate solar collector.
The results presented that the solar fraction increases with increasing the size of the water storage tank, the area of the solar collector, the number of covers of the collector, and when the slope angle of the solar collector is small.
The discussion committee was chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Adnan Mohammed Abdullah (College of Engineering / University of Mosul), and the membership of both Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayad Younis Abdullah and the lecturer Dr. Anwar Mohammed Mustafa, and under the supervision and membership of Assist. Prof. Dr. Saddam Atiya Mohammed.
