PhD dissertation on “Harmonics Reduction in PV System using Three Phase Multilevel Inverter”

A PH.D dissertation was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering/College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Harmonics Reduction in PV System using Three Phase Multilevel Inverter” submitted by the student (Ali Riyadh Ali Suleiman) under the supervision of the experienced Prof. Dr. Abdulghani Abdulrazzaq Abdulghafour. and Assist. Prof. Dr. Rakan Khalil Anter on Wednesday, March, 06, 2024.

The dissertation aims to “give an optimal model for multi-level inverters for renewable energy sources, and use the reduce number of switches, thus reducing the complexities of the gate drive. The foundations of the model include precise reduction of inverter power losses, and effective control of the lowest level of THD.” , reducing system cost and increasing efficiency.”

The dissertation discussed the objective analysis of the issue of power system harmonics, providing information on the causes and effects and useful harmonic mitigation strategies, in addition to the design and simulation of a single- and three-phase multilevel inverter using the MC-SPWM algorithm based on the phase action (PD-PWM) technique and improving the power quality through. Enhancing THD% voltage and current, propose a comprehensive model to deal with the Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) control problem. According to the proposed PSO solution, it will be based on improving the PSO and applying the proposed method to determine the SHE switching angle solution for the proposed topologies, and finally calculating the losses in inverters, efficiency and cost.

The results showed the efficiency of the proposed topologies and that the use of control techniques enhanced the performance of the proposed variables in terms of emphasizing the reduction of THD, reducing losses, improving efficiency, and reducing costs.
