The Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences participated in a committee discussing a master’s thesis focusing on improving the growth and yield of strawberries using environmentally friendly plant extracts.

Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, chaired the committee that discussed a Master’s thesis at the College of Agricultural Technology, Northern Technical University. The thesis, submitted by student Mohammed Hassan Yassin, was titled: “Improving Strawberry Growth and Yield Using Environmentally Friendly Plant Extracts under a Sustainable Hydroponic System.” The discussion took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

The discussion committee consisted of:

Assistant Professor Dr. Jinan Qasim Khurshid – Member

Dr. Ahmed Faris Salem – Member

Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Yousef – Member and Supervisor

Assistant Professor Dr. Ibtisam Fatih Hazem – Member and Supervisor

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of these extracts on improving the vegetative characteristics and productivity of plants, thus contributing to the move towards clean and environmentally friendly agriculture. The thesis also explored the possibility of using safe plant extracts to enhance the growth and productivity of strawberry crops within hydroponic systems, as a modern technique supporting agricultural sustainability and reducing the use of chemicals.

This participation comes within the framework of scientific and academic cooperation between the University of Mosul and the Northern Technical University, and in support of scientific research and the exchange of expertise between different disciplines. This participation contributed to achieving eight of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 2, Goal 4, Goal 6, Goal 9, Goal 12, Goal 13, Goal 15, and Goal 17.

In conclusion, the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his distinguished efforts and constructive scientific contribution.
