Master thesis discusses the evaluation of cyclin-based kinase in the blood serum of patients with thyroid cancer

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science / University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis tagged ” evaluation of cyclin-based kinase in the blood serum of patients with thyroid cancer ” by student Abdul Aziz Ghalib Juma Hussein.
Dr. Salem Jassim Mohammed, the head of the Department of chemistry, and a number of department teachers and graduate students attended part of the discussion.
The thesis included the study of cyclin-4-dependent kinase enzyme (CDK4) in thyroid cancer patients and comparing them with healthy ones, in addition to isolating and purifying the enzyme from blood serum using advanced Biotechnologies such as gel filtration chromatography and electrical migration.
The study aimed to:
Evaluation of the level of CDK4 enzyme in healthy and thyroid cancer patients to find out the possibility of its adoption as a vital indicator for early diagnosis and follow-up of patients ‘ condition after surgery.
Measurement of the level of thyroglobulin to determine the extent of its decrease in patients and its role as an additional indicator for early diagnosis and clinical follow-up.
The study of the coefficient of linear correlation between the enzyme CDK4 and other chemobiotic variables.
Carrying out the process of isolation and partial purification of the enzyme using various biotechnologies and determining its approximate molecular weight and comparing it via the technique of electrical migration.
This study is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular the third goal (good health and well-being), through its contribution to improving the means of early diagnosis of cancer diseases and supporting biomedical research that contributes to raising the level of health care and quality of life.
On behalf of the dean of the College of science, professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the head of the Department of chemistry, professor Dr. Salem Jassim Mohammed, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to the teacher Dr. Zeina Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Jabbar from the northern Technical University in appreciation of her scientific participation and efforts in discussing the thesis.
We wish our dear students continued success and success.
