College of Science Participates in National Tree Planting Day

In compliance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and on the occasion of National Tree Planting Day, the College of Science at the University of Mosul organized a tree-planting campaign in the gardens of its departments, with the participation of faculty members, staff, and students. The initiative aims to enhance green spaces and improve the aesthetic environment of the university campus.

The activity was supported by the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and supervised by the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, with the follow-up of department heads. The campaign reflects the efforts of the University Presidency and the College Deanship to support environmental initiatives and promote a culture of afforestation and sustainability within the academic environment.

The campaign included planting a variety of trees and plants across the scientific departments’ gardens, contributing to improving the environmental landscape and raising awareness of the importance of preserving nature.

The event also featured an awareness workshop titled “The Earth Breathes Through Trees,” held in the Department of Biology, which highlighted the importance of afforestation and its role in improving environmental quality and maintaining ecological balance. The workshop also emphasized the role of trees in purifying air, reducing pollution levels, and promoting public health.

In addition, the initiative included distributing small plants to students and participants to encourage future planting, as well as awareness brochures containing environmental guidelines and information on the importance of trees in protecting the environment and achieving sustainability.

National Tree Planting Day represents an important occasion to reaffirm the vital role of trees and vegetation in environmental protection, as trees contribute to air purification, oxygen production, soil fertility improvement, water resource conservation, and providing habitats for various forms of life.
