Bacterial Isolates Registration in the NCBI Database

A research team from the Department of Biology at the College of Science has registered two bacterial isolates in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database as part of its ongoing academic research activities.

The work was conducted under the supervision of Professor Dr. Israa Ghanem Hazim Al-Samak, with participation from undergraduate research students: Amina Mukheiber Al-Azawi, Naba Faseeh Rasheed, and Zeina Ghalib Shaker.

The registered bacterial isolates belong to the following species:

  • Bacillus cereus
  • Brevibacillus parabervis

These strains were isolated from feathers and identified using molecular techniques based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

The genetic sequences were officially deposited in the GenBank database (NCBI) under the following accession numbers:

1- PZ272971
2- PZ272949

This achievement comes as part of academic research requirements, contributing to the documentation of molecular data of bacterial isolates and making them available to researchers, thereby enhancing their scientific utilization at both local and international levels.

We wish all our students and faculty continued success and progress.
