Continuing Work in the Educational Mushroom Farm – College of Science

As part of the College of Science’s efforts to promote sustainable development concepts and enhance the utilization of natural resources, the Department of Biology continues its practical activities in the educational mushroom farm. This includes preparing suitable environmental conditions and monitoring growth and production stages, with the participation of students from the second and third stages (evening study), under the supervision of a group of department faculty members.
The project aims to contribute to food security and encourage local production through the cultivation of Agaricus bisporus, one of the most widely consumed mushroom species worldwide, due to its high nutritional value. It is a rich source of proteins, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, in addition to its role in supporting public health and promoting balanced diets.
The project also helps link theoretical knowledge with practical application, develop students’ laboratory and agricultural skills, and provide field experience in modern cultivation methods and small-scale production management.
This initiative aligns with the college’s vision of preparing scientifically qualified graduates who are capable of applying life sciences in service of society and sustainable development.
