Workshop on Viral Hepatitis: Prevention, Treatment, and Challenges in Iraq

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adil Ibrahim, with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Biology, Professor Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi, and with Continuing Education activities, the Department of Biology held a scientific workshop on Sunday morning, 17 May 2026, in the discussion hall entitled:

“Viral Hepatitis: Prevention, Treatment, and Challenges in Iraq.”

The workshop addressed the definition of viral hepatitis and its different types, modes of transmission, and the latest diagnostic and treatment approaches. It also highlighted the importance of prevention and health awareness in reducing the spread of the disease within Iraqi society.

The workshop emphasized that viral hepatitis remains a significant public health burden, requiring strengthened early detection programs, vaccination campaigns, and health education, in addition to the development of monitoring and treatment strategies.

It also shed light on the current situation of the disease in Iraq and the challenges faced by healthcare institutions in diagnosis and treatment, along with a review of the latest scientific developments in pharmacological therapies and effective preventive measures.

The workshop concluded that cooperation between academic and health institutions is essential to enhance public awareness, strengthen prevention programs, and support scientific research on viral diseases, ultimately improving healthcare services for patients.
