Workshop Discusses Health Risks Associated with the Increasing Dependence on Modern Urban Lifestyle Practices

As part of its Continuing Education Program activities, the Department of Biology organized a scientific workshop on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, entitled:

“Diseases of Urbanization and Their Relationship with Metabolic Syndrome”

The workshop explored the concept of urbanization and highlighted the most significant health and social problems that have emerged as a result of increasingly modernized lifestyles. It also focused on the key indicators of metabolic syndrome and examined its relationship with various health conditions and challenges associated with urbanization.

The presenters emphasized that moderation in the use of modern conveniences and technologies, maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and undergoing periodic medical examinations—particularly after the age of forty—have become essential measures for preventing the health risks associated with excessive dependence on and addiction to these lifestyle practices.

The workshop was delivered by:

  • Prof. Dr. Muntaha Mahmoud Al-Qattan
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Najah Subhi Nayef
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Marwa Hashim Dawood
  • Lecturer Dr. Sahar Luqman Hamed

The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of raising public awareness about lifestyle-related diseases and encouraging preventive health practices that contribute to improving quality of life and reducing the prevalence of chronic metabolic disorders.

At the conclusion of the event, the organizers expressed their wishes for continued health, success, and well-being for all participants, while reaffirming their commitment to scientific activities that support research and academic excellence at the University.
