Department of Biology at the College of Science Holds Three Scientific Seminars for Postgraduate Students

The Department of Biology at the College of Science organized three scientific seminars for postgraduate students on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall, with the attendance of faculty members and postgraduate students from the department.

The first seminar was presented by M.Sc. student (Microbiology) Amera Ibrahim Hussein Khalo, entitled:

“Evaluation of Lymphocyte and Macrophage Function in Individuals with Vitamin D Deficiency in Nineveh City”

The seminar examined the functions of lymphocytes and macrophages in individuals suffering from vitamin D deficiency in Mosul, focusing on the impact of this deficiency on the efficiency of the immune response.

The second seminar was delivered by M.Sc. student (Zoology) Ibrahim Maysar Abdul Qader, entitled:

“Evaluation of Selected Physiological, Biochemical, and Molecular Parameters in Patients after Thyroidectomy”

The seminar discussed the physiological, biochemical, and molecular changes observed in patients following thyroid gland removal and their effects on several health-related biomarkers.

The third seminar was presented by M.Sc. student (Zoology) Ruba Firas Ahmed Majeed, entitled:

“The Effect of Atherosclerosis on Angiotensin Hormone and Blood Gases in Selected Patients in Mosul City”

The presentation explored the relationship between atherosclerosis, angiotensin hormone levels, and selected blood gas parameters, highlighting their role in evaluating the physiological condition of patients with vascular diseases.

These seminars were conducted as part of the postgraduate research requirements under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Jabbar Hussein for the first seminar; Prof. Dr. Muntaha Mahmoud Al-Qattan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Haitham Luqman Al-Hayali for the second seminar; and Prof. Dr. Muntaha Mahmoud Al-Qattan and Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Ismail Al-Jubouri for the third seminar. The seminars concluded with constructive scientific discussions that enriched the research topics and contributed to their further development.
