The College of Computer Science and Mathematics is holding a training course on the psychological and mental impact of drugs on academic achievement.

The session highlighted the negative psychological and mental impact of drug use on students, directly affecting their academic performance. It explained the stages a drug user goes through, including psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, tension, and mood swings, in addition to decreased motivation to study and social isolation. This reduces student engagement in the classroom. Drugs affect the brain, weakening memory, concentration, and attention, and diminishing comprehension and understanding. Consequently, students struggle to follow lessons and recall information during exams.
This results in lower grades, frequent absences, neglect of assignments, and an increased likelihood of failing or dropping out. Furthermore, students’ relationships with their families and teachers are negatively impacted, exacerbating their academic difficulties. The session also emphasized the importance of avoiding negative influences and the necessity of seeking family and educational support when needed to protect students.
