Department of Cybersecurity
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security at the University of Mosul, offered by the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits, aligned with the Bologna Process. The program was created in response to the rapid pace of digital transformation and the rising rates of electronic attacks and cyber-intrusion risks, and it aims to qualify graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to detect, analyze, and address vulnerabilities and intrusions in computing systems. The curriculum integrates a strong foundation in programming, computer science, mathematics, and networking with specialized study in information security, cryptography, ethical hacking, digital forensics, cyber warfare, cloud computing, and network, database, web-application, and IoT security. Programming and scripting languages relevant to cybersecurity and cloud computing, such as Python, are incorporated throughout the curriculum for the development of security tools. The specialization was established following consultation with specialists in computer science and with the public and private labor market, in order to prepare national competencies capable of strengthening Iraq’s cybersecurity infrastructure and improving the safety and performance of public and private institutions.
The program integrates theoretical knowledge with laboratory work, hands-on security exercises, project-based learning, and a graduation research project to develop technical competence and professional readiness. Graduates acquire the analytical, practical, and problem-solving abilities required to protect information systems, networks, applications, and digital infrastructure, while the program also promotes ethical responsibility, teamwork, innovation, and continuous professional development. The Cyber Security Program aims to:
- Provide students with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to analyze cybersecurity problems and design appropriate solutions using best practices, enabling them to excel, innovate, and qualify for leading positions in the labor market.
- Develop graduates’ ability to innovate while adhering to the professional, legal, and ethical framework governing cybersecurity practice, and to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Enable students to engage in continuous self-learning so they can keep pace with the latest developments in cybersecurity technology and adopt new tools, techniques, and methods throughout their careers.
- Prepare graduates with the foundation needed to pursue postgraduate studies in cybersecurity and related fields.
- Develop students’ technical and practical competencies through laboratory work, security-tool training, ethical hacking exercises, digital-forensics practice, and undergraduate research.
- Promote awareness of information-risk management, data privacy, and the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with protecting individuals and public and private institutions in Iraq.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Cyber Security by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security program is governed by the regulations and admission policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must meet the approved central-admission criteria for the College of Computer Science and Mathematics.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security, students must successfully satisfy all graduation requirements, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits across eight semesters (four years), including all compulsory courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
- Successful completion of all required laboratory work, security-tool training, and other practical components of the program.
- Completion of a minimum four-week summer internship, as required for the award of the Bachelor’s degree.
- Compliance with all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, and graduation as approved by MOHESR and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security program, graduates are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Graduate Outcomes (GOs), which describe the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required upon graduation:
GO1: An ability to identify, formulate, and analyze cybersecurity problems by applying the principles of computer science, mathematics, and information security.
GO2: An ability to design and implement secure systems, networks, applications, and cloud/IoT environments that meet required security needs within recognized standards and practices.
GO3: An ability to use cybersecurity tools and techniques — including penetration testing, digital forensics, and malicious-code analysis — to detect and respond to vulnerabilities, and to make sound security judgments.
GO4: An ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences on cybersecurity matters.
GO5: An ability to recognize ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities in cybersecurity practice, and to make sound judgments considering their societal, legal, and organizational consequences.
GO6: An ability to recognize the necessity of continuous self-development in cybersecurity knowledge, and to obtain, evaluate, and apply new tools and techniques as the field evolves.
GO7: An ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, plan and manage security-related tasks, meet deadlines, and manage risk.
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security program is aligned with the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF) at Level 6. The following table illustrates how the program’s Graduate Outcomes correspond to the key learning domains defined by the INQF:

The Cyber Security Program adopts the examination, assessment, and grading regulations approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Student performance is assessed through a variety of continuous and summative assessment methods, including:
- Continuous assessment (quizzes, assignments, and classroom activities).
- Midterm examinations.
- Final examinations.
- Laboratory reports and practical assessments.
- Security-tool exercises and hands-on coursework.
- Summer internship (minimum four weeks).
- Oral presentations and seminars.
- Graduation project assessment (Project I and Project II).
- Compliance with academic integrity regulations and institutional policies regarding academic misconduct, cheating, and plagiarism.
To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security, students must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits and all compulsory courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements, including the required cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), in accordance with the applicable regulations.
- Successful completion of the graduation project (Project I and Project II) and all required laboratory and practical components.
- Completion of the required four-week summer internship.
- Fulfillment of all academic and administrative requirements for the award of the Bachelor’s degree.

The Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security is the Head of the Department of Cyber Security. The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the program. The role includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, monitoring the achievement of the Graduate Outcomes, coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising laboratory and practical training activities, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) regulations, and program accreditation requirements. The Program Coordinator also supports curriculum review and enhancement to ensure that the program remains responsive to advances in cybersecurity, industry needs, and emerging technologies.
