Department of Statistics and Informatics
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics, offered by the Department of Statistics and Informatics at the University of Mosul, is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits and aligned with the Bologna Process. The program provides students with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, probability, and computing, followed by advanced study in mathematical statistics, statistical inference, regression analysis, sampling, design and analysis of experiments, multivariate analysis, time series analysis, stochastic processes, statistical modeling, database systems, statistical programming, data mining, and artificial intelligence.
The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical sessions, computer laboratory work, applied projects, statistical software, data analysis, scientific reporting, and research activities to develop students’ statistical, analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills. In the final academic year, students undertake a graduation research project that enables them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program to practical and research problems.
Graduates acquire the competencies required to collect, manage, analyze, model, and interpret data, apply appropriate statistical and computational methods, and support evidence-based decision-making across a wide range of disciplines. The Statistics Program aims to:
- Provide students with a comprehensive education in Statistics that establishes a strong foundation in mathematics, probability, statistical theory, and information technology while fostering statistical reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Prepare graduates for successful professional careers and postgraduate studies by developing their ability to collect, organize, analyze, model, and interpret data using appropriate statistical methods and quantitative techniques to support evidence-based decision-making and solve real-world problems.
- Develop students’ technical and computational competencies through practical applications, statistical software, programming languages, database systems, data management, data visualization, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence techniques.
- Enhance graduates’ communication and teamwork skills through the preparation of scientific reports, effective presentation of statistical findings, research activities, and collaboration within multidisciplinary environments.
- Promote professional ethics, scientific responsibility, innovation, and lifelong learning, with particular emphasis on data privacy, information security, and intellectual property rights, while preparing competent graduates capable of meeting labor market needs and contributing to sustainable community development.

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Statistics by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics, offered by the Department of Statistics and Informatics, is governed by the regulations and admission policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must meet the approved admission criteria and requirements applicable to the program.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics, students must successfully satisfy all graduation requirements, including:
▪ Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits, including all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
▪ Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
▪ Successful completion of all required practical sessions, computer laboratory work, statistical and computational applications, applied projects, and the graduation research project.
▪ Compliance with all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, and graduation as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics program, offered by the Department of Statistics and Informatics at the University of Mosul, graduates are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Graduate Outcomes (GOs), which describe the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required upon graduation:

An ability to apply analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills to statistical and informatics-related problems, evaluate statistical results and underlying assumptions, identify limitations, and recognize patterns and trends to reach appropriate conclusions.

An ability to communicate statistical concepts, analytical results, and scientific findings effectively to specialist and non-specialist audiences, prepare scientific reports and professional presentations, and work effectively and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics, students must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits and all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achievement of the minimum academic requirements for graduation in accordance with the applicable regulations.
- Successful completion of the graduation project and all required practical, computer laboratory, and training components, where applicable.
- Fulfillment of all academic and administrative requirements for the award of the bachelor’s degree.
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics, offered by the Department of Statistics and Informatics, is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program delivered in accordance with the Bologna Process and comprising 240 ECTS credits. The program adopts a student-centered learning approach that integrates theoretical lectures, practical sessions, computer laboratory work, statistical applications, data analysis, research activities, and project-based learning.
Students are trained to use appropriate statistical software, programming languages, computational tools, database systems, and data analysis and visualization techniques to address statistical and data-related problems. These learning activities are further supported by seminars, workshops, applied projects, and the graduation research project to enhance students’ statistical, analytical, computational, research, communication, and problem-solving skills and prepare them for professional practice and postgraduate studies.
Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics program. The role includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, monitoring the achievement of the Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, following up practical and computer laboratory activities, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), the Bologna Process, and program accreditation requirements.
The Program Coordinator also supports curriculum review and continuous improvement to ensure that the program remains responsive to advances in Statistics, Informatics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as labor market needs and emerging technologies.
