Discussion of a Master’s thesis – Department of Statistics and Informatics, by student Lamia Khalil Ibrahim

On Monday, March 9, 2026, a master’s thesis entitled “Using Robust Regression to Evaluate the Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture in Nineveh Governorate” was discussed in the discussion hall of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, University of Mosul. The thesis was presented by student Lamia Khalil Ibrahim and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Abdul Aziz Al-Talib.

The thesis addressed the impact of climate change, specifically temperature, rainfall, relative humidity, and other climatic factors, on agricultural production in Nineveh Governorate. Robust regression models were used to manage the impact of outliers and ensure the accuracy of the results.

The study analyzed climatic and agricultural data over a specific period, comparing the results of traditional least-squares regression with those of robust regression models. It also demonstrated the extent to which outliers affect parameter estimation.

The thesis aimed to evaluate the relationship between climatic variables and agricultural production with greater accuracy using robust statistical methods and to propose a more suitable model for predicting agricultural changes under climate fluctuations.

This thesis contributes to the following Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. SDG 2: Zero Hunger
  2. SDG 13: Climate Action
  3. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  4. SDG 15: Life on Land
  5. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

The discussion committee consisted of:

Assistant Professor Dr. Hayam Abdulmajid Hayawi (Chair)

Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Sattar Daoud (Member)
