Holding the scientific workshop entitled: The legal value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights between moral obligation and customary rule

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah Al-Bazzaz, the College’s Human Rights Unit, in cooperation with the Human Rights Department at the University of Mosul Presidency, held a scientific workshop entitled: “The Legal Value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Between Moral Obligation and Customary Law,” on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The workshop aimed to analyze the legal value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and clarify its position within the international legal system, examining whether it is a moral obligation for states or a rule of international custom. It also highlighted its role in establishing the principles of justice and respect for human dignity, and in promoting legal awareness of the culture of rights and fundamental freedoms within society and academic institutions, thereby contributing to an environment based on the rule of law, responsibility, and respect for rights.
