Master’s Thesis entitled:
“Sustainable Traffic Congestion Monitoring in a Smart City Using Real-Time Streaming Data”

The thesis addressed: Monitoring traffic congestion in smart cities using real-time streaming data and Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs).
The study discussed: Comparing four vehicular mobility models with five routing protocols using NetLogo simulation and statistically analyzing the results.
The thesis aimed to: Develop a reusable simulation framework for generating large-scale, real-time streaming traffic data, measure the trade-offs between mobility models and routing protocols, and provide recommendations for selecting the most appropriate strategy according to delivery time, message cost, and coverage area.
This thesis contributes most directly to Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities:
- Supporting more efficient urban transportation through real-time congestion monitoring and improving the flow of traffic information.
- Contributing to reducing the indirect environmental impact of traffic congestion through more efficient and sustainable traffic management.
- Supporting a scalable intelligent transportation infrastructure that balances communication speed, network load, and spatial coverage.
