This thesis addressed the problem of the automated diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) based on magnetic resonance imaging, a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by subtle and heterogeneous patterns that are difficult to detect through human examination alone.
The study aimed to present an intelligent system based on deep learning that integrates the information of structural (sMRI) and functional (fMRI) images within a hierarchical, multi-view framework, extracting spatial features from the structural images and the temporal dynamics and functional connectivity from the functional images, and then fusing the representations of both modalities for the accurate detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder, while providing full interpretability that supports clinical trust.
