entitled: “Design and Implementation of a Smart Web-Based Project Management System to Improve Productivity of Small Software Teams”

supervised by  Dr. Shayma Mustafa Mohi-Aldeen / Lecturer

The thesis addressed:

The design and implementation of an intelligent web-based project management system that integrates traditional administrative functions with a decision-support engine based on Symbolic Artificial Intelligence (Rule-Based Expert System), aimed at addressing the challenges of productivity and workload balance in small software development teams.

The study covered:

Concepts of software project management and its agile methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban), the challenges faced by small teams, and intelligent rule-based decision support systems. It also addressed the formulation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) embedded in the system, namely: Task Completion Rate (TCR), Workload Balance Index (WBI), and Delayed Tasks Metric (DTM).

The study aims to

  1. Design and build an integrated web-based environment for project tracking and task allocation tailored to the limited resources of small teams.
  2. Develop an intelligent engine to detect bottlenecks and alert managers upon workload imbalance or task delays, providing immediate actionable recommendations.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed system through a practical case study and a series of functional tests to measure its impact on team productivity.

This thesis contributes to the following Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – By enhancing the productivity of software development teams and ensuring a healthy workload balance, thereby reducing employee burnout and promoting a decent work environment.
  2. Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – By developing innovative software solutions that support digital transformation and technological innovation in the software development sector.
  3. Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Through the optimal utilization of human and temporal resources, and reducing waste resulting from poor planning or task delays throughout the project lifecycle.
