PhD. by the student “Ghada Muhammad Tahir Qasim”

The College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Computer Science discussed a doctoral thesis entitled: “Adaptive Descriptive Learning for Software Development” in the presence of the esteemed Dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Duha Basheer Abdullah, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in the discussion hall at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul. This thesis was presented by the student “Ghada Muhammad Tahir Qasim” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Safwan Omar Hassoun.

The thesis addressed: the use of meta-learning to build a system consisting of five diverse machine learning models that, after being hybridized with meta-learning algorithms, have the ability to adapt and predict five levels of severity for software risks, in addition to proposing a new equation for a new metric to measure the impact severity of each level of risk severity. Different datasets were also utilized. The study discussed: meta-learning algorithms which learn from other algorithms, and modern techniques that have been used to predict software defects, as well as hybrid systems that are characterized by their ability to perform more complex tasks than those each component can perform alone. The study aims: to build an adaptive system consisting of five models from meta-learning and hybrid models to predict five levels of severity for software defects.

The discussion committee consisted of:

Prof. Dr. Lahib Muhammad Ibrahim – Chairman

Prof. Dr. Iyad Rawdan Abbas – Member

Asst. Prof. Dr. Jamal Salah Al-Din Majid – Member

Asst. Prof. Dr. Alaa Yasin Taha Taqa – Member
