Registration of a New Bacterial Isolate in the NCBI Database

In a scientific achievement that adds to the research accomplishments of the College of Science, a research team from the Department of Biology successfully registered a new bacterial isolate in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), as part of its ongoing academic and research efforts.
This work was carried out under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Hiba Khalid Mahmoud, with the participation of research project students Ruqayya Qahtan Daadoosh, Dhubyan Faiz Salih, and Nahla Waad Ahmed. The team worked on the isolation and identification of the bacterium using advanced molecular biology techniques.
The registered isolate belongs to the bacterial species Raoultella ornithinolytica, which was isolated from soap dispensers. Identification was performed through molecular analysis and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, one of the most important genetic markers used for the accurate characterization of bacterial species.
The genetic sequence was officially deposited in the GenBank database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under the accession number PX923303, ensuring its documentation and accessibility to researchers worldwide.
This achievement reflects the College’s commitment to supporting high-quality scientific research, strengthening its presence in international scientific databases, and contributing to the enrichment of molecular data related to bacterial isolates for research and development purposes.
We extend our sincere congratulations to our students and wish them continued success and excellence in their academic and scientific endeavors.
