A high diploma thesis by Noor Moayed Husain

Discussion of a high diploma thesis in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics – Department of Software entitled:

“Enhance Rivest Cipher 4 (RC4) Algorithm Using Chaotic System”

In continuation of the scientific research movement and with the follow-up and presence of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics

Respected Professor Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah

It was discussed in the discussion hall of the College of Computer  Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on Thursday 29/2/2024

Diploma’s thesis by Noor Moayed Husain

supervised by Assis. Prof. Dr. Nadia Maan Mohammed Thabit

This thesis includes work on improving the Rivest Cipher 4 (RC4) algorithm and increasing its randomness and complexity through the use of the chaotic logistic function in the process of generating the secret key of different lengths) 64-bit, 128-bit, 256-bit) to make the algorithm more secure in the process of communication and information exchange. The encoding quality of the improved method was evaluated using several metrics such as Encryption Time, Decryption Time, Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Square Error (MSE), Normalized Cross Similarity Coefficient (NCC), and Coefficient Index. Structural similarity (SSIM), as well as histogram.

The work was applied to different image extensions (BMP, PNG, JPG) and different sizes. The values of the standards applied to a PNG image with a size of 256*256 were as follows: Encryption Time is equal to 4S, and Decryption Time. Time) was equal to 4S, the PSNR value was equal to (7.9859), the MSE value was equal to (10339.4), the NCC value was equal to (0.00036), and finally the SSIM value was equal to (0.08549). The values of the metrics applied to an image of the same type but with a size of 512*512 were as follows: Encryption Time was equal to (3S), Decryption Time was equal to (3S), and the PSNR value was equal to (8.3532). ), the MSE value is equal to (9479.4), the NCC value is equal to (0.00014), and finally the SSIM value is equal to (0.013792). The results showed that the improved encryption method based on the chaotic logistic map succeeded in achieving a balance between image quality and security, in addition to its superiority over similar methods.
