Discussion of the Diploma research in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics -Department of Computer Science Department entitled “Student evaluation System in Labs Using Arduino Nano”

Diploma research ‘s  thesis by  Sura Hasan Falih

supervised by  Dr. Yaseen Hikmat Ismae

This thesis includes the real challenges faced by educational institutions in relying on paper-based systems for attendance tracking and student performance evaluation, particularly in scientific laboratories that require precise monitoring and immediate documentation of results. Traditional methods demonstrate limitations in efficiency, as they consume significant time and effort, are more prone to human errors, and present difficulties in retrieving and analyzing data later in an organized and effective manner.

The study addressed the design and implementation of an integrated electronic system based on the Arduino Mega board, which records student grades and evaluates them in real-time, in addition to automatically registering attendance and absences. The system utilizes components such as a Nextion display, an RTC module for timing the records, and an SD card for data storage. The study also focused on making the system practical and flexible, allowing it to be used in classrooms without the need for a constant connection to a computer.

The study aims to automate the evaluation process in order to reduce reliance on manual methods and provide an accurate means of documenting student grades for each laboratory session, with the evaluations stored in files that can be later used in programs such as Excel. It also seeks to provide an accurate attendance and absence database, which can be utilized to generate academic warning reports automatically, contributing to improved academic monitoring of students by both the administration and faculty.
